The International Meteor Organization showed a peak in activity yesterday followed by a sharp drop off. So sharp I thought we'd missed it. But I just checked again and they are showing that as of 0150 UT (about 4 hours ago) the zenith hourly rate had increased to about 50 per hour =/- 6. From here in Stansbury the smoke is clearly evident but happily thin enough that I'm able to spot Polaris naked eye. NWS is calling for the wind to shift to out of the SE tonight so hopefully by prime meteor observing time that will have happened and the smoke will go away. Fingers crossed, patrick
Robert The Perseids are tonight !! Not tomorrow. I thought today was the 10th, I f##%ed up on the date. Clouds here, I'll check again at 2am and if clear, go out and have a look.supposed to be a peak about midnight. I watched this morning for about an hour before starting work, from 4AM to about 5AM. In that time, through smoke and high, thin cirrus, I saw exactly ONE Perseid. Pretty pathetic ZHR. I'm getting my tennis racquet ready and waiting for the Geminids. On Mon, Aug 12, 2013 at 12:12 AM, Rob Ratkowski <ratkwski@gmail.com> wrote:

Well, at least for the short times I looked, the Perseid show in La Sal has been poor, also. Last night (1AM to 1:30AM,MDT Monday, I saw zero meteors. Tonight, from 12:30AM until 2:20AM, MDT Tuesday, I saw only seven... the brightest was about 1st. magnitude, most were closer to 2nd. magnitude. One of 2nd. magnitude did trail for about 15 degrees, and left a momentarily residual trail. The rest were much shorter.

I am planning on driving west possibly to the Stansbury mountains tonight. Will someone out there please report what the smoke/cloud situation is like so I know if it is worth it? Chris, that's pretty close to the Patch Springs fire. I'd pick another site if I were going out tonight. http://www.utahfireinfo.gov/fire_information/westDesert/PatchSprings8_11pm2.... On Mon, Aug 12, 2013 at 8:28 AM, Chris Watson <thebigzwatson@yahoo.com>wrote:

I went to little mountain at 3am and saw 36 between about 3:30 and 5 am. Beautiful. It was cloudy/smokey to the south and west but we had a pretty clear window toward the radiant that whole time. I'm glad I went. I had the camera running so I'm excited to see if I caught any. Dion On Aug 11, 2013, at 11:59 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:
