Re: [Utah-astronomy] Giant Sun Spots
Well, they will continue to see spots.
In my original reply, I said "filtered of course". I'm getting my
lawyers lined up.
Seriously. Though this would not qualify for the "Darwin awards", if someone looks at the sun unfiltered because of sun spots, maybe they should be nominated. However, if someone (make him male) had his unfiltered telescope on the sun and the eyepiece is at well, below the belt level, he could legitimately take himself out of the gene pool.
A cautious around unfiltered telescopes during the day, Mat

Ya know guys.... I'm pretty sure you are saying "naked eye" and meaning "non-magnified", but we really should be careful or someone will, sure as shooting, give it a try. ~shudder~ Jo

It's just been a long time since I last saw sun spots naked eye. So it was refreshing to see them.
I did check it out with the scope and there is a nice line of spots across the face of the sun. The naked eye view is more impressive though, I thought.

While not common, naked-eye spots aren't once-in-a-lifetime events. I've seen them on half a dozen occassions over the course of my life. I'll definitely check this out when I get home.
Thanks!
