It's about time for another meeting of the Liver & Onions Subcommittee. There is a sun party and ATM session on the 14th, so how does either 6/21 or 6/28 look to everyone? No SLAS events are scheduled on those two Saturdays. For those unfamiliar with the Liver & Onions Subcommittee, it is a luncheon for those astronomy and science-minded folks who enjoy the deliciousness of liver and onions, along with stimulating conversation covering a multitude of topics, from astronomy and other branches of science, to telescope making, railroading, firearms, history, aviation, skiing, just about anything. Even climate change or fracking, if that's on your mind. Of course you don't have to order the liver and onions. In fact as some of us are getting on in years, our doctors have advised us to stay away from liver for various reasons (oh, the unfairness of life). The only rule is that if you order something else, you are not permitted to make rude comments about those who do opt for the liver. Our usual venue is the Left Fork Grill, 68 W 3900 S, Salt Lake City. Pretty centrally located in the Salt Lake Valley. Their menu includes a lot of tasty items, including some wonderful fresh-baked pies. We usually gather at noon, and we reserve a large group table. There is a TRAX station just west of the restaurant. If it's clear, I may bring the double-stack PST for a parking-lot sun party afterwards- show & tell items are encouraged. So let me know which of the two Saturdays above would work for most of you, and we'll get it firmly scheduled. All are welcome, let's see some new faces as well as the regulars this time. Thanks!

Chuck, You just contradicted yourself. There IS a SLAS event on the 14th and you should come. The Sun party at Winchester. We usually don't get out of there until after noon. We have family coming in on the 20th so neither Saturday may work for me but that's OK.IF enough people can make it then go ahead with it without me. It's going to be a hit and miss summer at best for me and L&O. We just have a lot planned but not everything is scheduled. Lol, re-read it a bit more carefully, Ziggy. No contradiction at all. I mentioned the sun party on the 14th. I only suggested the 21st and 28th for L&O. You'll be missed, you're one of the core group! I'f I'm not working, I was planning on the sun party in the morning, and ATM session in the afternoon that day. Too early to tell yet. Sounds like the 21st is the date that works best for most folks, let's plan on Saturday June 21.
Last night- June 5th around 9:30pm or so, there was many reports of a meteor bolide to the east of SLC. My best guess so far is that it impacted near the middle or eastern half of Wyoming. Yeah, I know that is a very large area so I am hoping that someone on the list might have seen it personally or has heard anything about it from someone else. PLEASE let me know if you know anything about it! You can also report it here --> http://lunarmeteoritehunters.blogspot.com/2000/11/meteor-fireball-report-for m.html Thanks! -Barrett www.FallenStarHunters.com
We have family in town an both weekends. I will have to pass. But, if enough can make it then by all means go ahead with it. I'll catch up another time. Bruno's Saturdays will tied up for the foreseeable future. On Thu, Jun 5, 2014 at 6:30 AM, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

Reminder that the Liver & Onions Subcommittee lunch is tomorrow at noon.
Left Fork Grill, 68 W 3900 S, Salt Lake City.
Mike Clements has told me that he plans to be there. I'll bring the double-stack PST for an after-lunch look at the sun, if it's clear. If you plan on coming, please let me know by tonight so I can give the restaurant an idea of how many, when I call to reserve our table in the morning. I usually add a couple of seats to the confirmed number, just in case someone shows-up at the last minute, so don't stay away if you aren't sure and can't RSVP beforehand. Hope to see you all there!
I'll be there, and looking forward to a peek at the sun and lunching with some great folk. /R ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, June 20, 2014 12:45 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] L&O time again Reminder that the Liver & Onions Subcommittee lunch is tomorrow at noon.

Hi Friends, I seem to be over the gout permanently (I'm now on Allopurinal). That's the good news re. liver-and-onion feasting. The bad news is that the feast is planned for the time when I am required to be at a family gathering. There is no appeal from that if I want to stay married, and I do. -- Next time!
