Just in time for Halloween, here's my astrophoto of the Headless Horseman's spectral horse. The Horsehead Nebula was the subject of about 4 1/2 hours of subexposures of l,r,g,b this morning at Lakeside, Tooele County. It was a serenely beautiful night, with stars just stunning and still air. But that air hit 27 degrees, putting ice in my plastic water bottle. Still, I had a great time. Thanks for taking a look -- Joe http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=6050&g2_imageViewsIndex=1

Joe, Very nice. It is getting colder at night, even here in St. George. Not 27℉, though. Dave On Oct 30, 2014, at 22:27, Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Hey, that's NOT a galaxy. Who are you, and what have you done with the real Joe? Seriously, that's a top-notch pic, Joe, well worth the hours spent in cold darkness to get it. I think I'll make it my desktop background photo for the month of November. Well-done! On Thu, Oct 30, 2014 at 10:27 PM, Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Thanks Joe. I plan on taking good ideas from every direction and can't remember where I read it, but know it comes from you about showing members photos, etc. prior to the meeting. Its a great idea, sets the mood for the meeting. So I'll be contacting you. There is a book by the author of xlcd website about serious scientific answers to absurd hypothetical questions. One of those questions was from Chuck H. - no kidding. There was also one about if everyone on earth pointed their lasers at the moon, what would we see. Thought that would make a good series before the meeting as well. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe via Utah-Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> To: "Utah Astronomy" <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, October 31, 2014 11:54:34 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Horsehead Thank you, everyone.
