I just went over to the Meteorological Department (Met) at Dugway Proving Ground and I saw the whether charts for Friday night. It looks like Friday will be clear but then by early evening (between 5 - 7 PM) high clouds will start moving in. This condition will worsen as the evening goes on unless the system slows down. The Met models seem to indicate it won't but we can hope. They have been wrong before, but usually only when you are not counting on it.

The moon favors a Messier marathon this year, I believe, if that influences anyone. --- Brent Watson <brentjwatson@yahoo.com> wrote:

The new moon is on the 20th of March which makes it easier to see M74 & M77 in the Western evening sky but also makes it more difficult to catch M30 in the East in the morning.... db On Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at 09:41 AM, Chuck Hards wrote:

Look, everyone, from my point of view only, unless you're a rank amateur, MMs are an excuse to get out of the house with the telescope. They are a social event, and this area concentrates mostly on the social aspects of amateur astronomy anyway. They are easy, my first one was over 33 years ago (when the Messier objects were closer, due to cosmic expansion ;), I am familiar with all the caveats. I just threw it into the mix for March observing considerations, didn't mean to hold the activity up for dissection by itself, didn't mean to arouse any name calling. No big deal, mon!
