Dave, Joe, Aleta, Nate:
Howdy! Echo from the Natural History Museum of Utah here! I believe I have met a few of you in my work with Paulmichael Maxfield at the Museum, however, I hope I have a better opportunity to match some faces with names in the future!
I am reaching out today because The Natural History Museum of Utah is looking to spotlight several local scientists, organizations and community partners whose works involves astronomy! If part of your work focuses on space or physics and astronomy, we would love to invite you to be a presenter at NHMU’s Saturday Solarbration which will kick-off August’s total solar eclipse on Saturday, August 19th!
This is also an excellent opportunity for students to build their science communication skills so please forward this information on to any students that you think would be interested in participating.
For more information about the Saturday Solarbration and what your commitment would be, check out the information below, and feel free to respond with any questions.
Saturday Solarbration: As part of its mission to “illuminate the natural world,” NHMU will host a Saturday Solarbration on Saturday, August 19th 2017 from 12 pm – 4 pm. The Saturday Solarbration will include opportunities for the general public to meet local scientists whose physics and astronomy research serves variety of scientific applications. The Saturday Solarbration will include activities for audiences of all ages.
Scientist/Organization Commitment: Participating scientists and organizations will sign up participate for the entire duration of the event from 12pm-4pm. Scientists should bring objects that help the general public visualize their research. Typical objects include things like: specimens, field equipment, lab tools, pictures, videos, etc.
NHMU’s Commitment: NHMU will provide information and support that will help scientists/organizations communicate their research. We’d be happy to meet with you in-person or talk by phone about the best approach to take when interacting with the public. We can support you with IT assistance, and by providing basic materials, on the day of the event. Two admission tickets to NHMU for family and friends.
Events like our Saturday Solarbration help scientists build their capacity for science communication and help the general public understand and appreciate current scientific research.
If you have any questions or would like to sign up, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.
Best,
