I heard and read other variations of this as well including substituting "Terrifying" and "Amazing" for horrifying. On Arthur’s old TV show he would use the variation of this phrase with the word Amazing. I'd like to think that is closer to his real thoughts. Personally I don't find anything horrible or terrifying about it, some how I doubt Arthur did either. The universe doesn't seem to stay in any one state for too long. If we are alone in this vast universe I'm sure other intelligent species would come along shortly after intelligent life on Earth blink’s out. Yes, I think there’s other life out there. I can't even imagine that there are no other civilizations in the Milky Way, let alone all the billions of other galaxies. That seems the most far-fetched delusion. It's like a native of a small island refusing to believe there are any other people. The laws of nature seem to operate elsewhere as they do here, judging by many parameters we can measure, so it seems foolish to think we are alone. Whether you attribute our lives to God or random evolution, that still is the case. People of faith can believe in science, many are on this list and I am proud to call them friends. I do think they are in the minority, however. And many others are compelled to not speak out, for fear of ostracism or worse. Remember that the USA is a hotbed of fundamentalism- far more than Europe and most other western-culture societies, so we will encounter far fewer here who can incorporate science into their brand of faith. This country is still very provincial in many aspects of cultural nuance.

Fair enough, Spencer. I actually DID cite my first quote. Paul Simon, from the album "There Goes Rhymin' Simon", 1973 The second was from the Peter, Paul, and Mary album "Moving", 1963 The thrid was from the album "Indian Reservation" by Paul Revere and the Raiders, 1971 My final quote from Paul was taken from the Paul Anka single "Diana", 1957 I felt these far more contemporary and relevant than anything from the Thessalonians, who really didn't have many hits, and you can't dance to them. ;o) On Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 3:16 PM, Spencer Ball <spencer@spencerball.com>wrote:

The song was actually written and originally performed by Pete Seeger. Peter, Paul, and Mary covered it and probably gave it a wider audience with their version. On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 9:00 AM, <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:
