Re: [Utah-astronomy] Great Basin Astronomy Festival
Hi, Is the camping free or do we have to pay the $12 fee like everybody else? Who do we contact if we are thinking of going? What is the elevation up there? I would think it would be a nice place to observe with less crowds and drunks. I bet the skies are really dark too. Debbie On Thu Jul 1 17:40 , Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> sent:
This is over a month away, folks, forecasts are kind of useless this far ahead.
It is firmly entrenched in the monsoon season, but I remember a lot of cloudless, sunny skies in August in my half-century in the Great Basin.

Well it is not a SLAS sanctioned event, you probably should contact the park. The web page has a contact us by e-mail link, but no e-mail address is given, you have to click on link to send them e-mail. Tom Sevick was the original person that tried to get SLAS officially involved in this.

I want to let everyone know that my friend Ray Boren has his second Earth Science Picture of the Day -- it's a patriotic red, white and blue image published today. To see this beauty, click here: http://epod.usra.edu/ As Kurt can attest, this is a truly great state for such images. Thanks, Joe
Cool Photo !!!! it's one of those places on my eventual SW USA trip Happy Independence Day, Aloha Rob PS Off to the beach on a gorgeous day here on Maui
Let me know when you'll be here. I'll be glad to take you to the Spiral Jetty in my Jeep, and Ray might come along too. Debbie, use the "contact us" link to ask them directly. Never having attended (this is the first year of the festival, officially), I can't answer your questions. http://www.nps.gov/grba/contacts.htm Just looking at a map, this has the potential for the darkest, best skies (weather permitting) of any national park festival, bar none.
