Saturday Night Observing
Thanks Guy for the Bryce report. Is anyone going out to SPOC tonight? I am a fair-weather observer. -A
I may be at the Pit 'n Pole; haven't decided yet. Rich --- Olhomorto@aol.com wrote:

J E A L O U S ! Hiya Rob. We'll be at the "Pit 'n Pole" in Rush Valley (West Desert); decent dark sky with a good So. Horizion. Not half as glamourous as where you're at! Rich --- Rob Ratkowski <ratkwski@hawaii.rr.com> wrote:

Tyler Allred and I are planning on a few hours in Rush Valley tonight at oh-dark-thirty for any that care to join us. Probably won't be staying too late (he's got a 7 a.m. meeting) but the forecast is for clear, with clouds moving back in tomorrow night, so it's now or never for another several weeks probably. Hi Rich I wish I could join you all and have some Utah sky to enjoy. We have some trades blowing and should back off about 10 PM or so, but right now it's warm and dry and water vapor looks minimal, so it's going to be a real good night. Scorpio, Eta Carina and the Crux are so visible, our southern sky to 10 of the horizon is crisp and dark. Venus shines like a bright UFO .................. Aloha Rob
Rob, We had so-so conditions here in Utah last night; I don't think it was fully dark until about 10:30, and we had occasional clouds move over to spoil the view, not to mention that it was probably too cold for your tropical blood ;o). I was keeping pretty much to the Coma Berenices region, busy picking off galaxies, and that remained mostly cloud-free, though I had some alignment problems with my digital setting circles, which can be fatal in that part of the sky when it comes to identifying individual galaxies, and there are sometimes 4 or 5 in a given field of view. :o) Despite that, I managed to knock off another 16 or so objects from my Herschel-400 list. Tyler had his share of frustrations with gear, cloud-timing, some dew, and lack of guide stars. John and Lisa Z. brought along their cool new laser pointer (a whopping 18 milliwatt) and stirred up some geek-gadget covetousness in me! Got to bed about 2:45 this morning... --- Rob Ratkowski <ratkwski@hawaii.rr.com> wrote:
