Hawking is a wonderful man and a great inspiration. The latest I heard is that he's expected to make a full recovery. Once when he visited SLC, my son, Sky -- then a youngster -- asked him if there was one Big Bang, could there have been others. The response was dead silence for minutes. Then the mechanical voice replied that as far as we know, there was only one in this neighborhood. Sky is now a physicist at the University of Wisconsin, where he is working on a project related to string theory. If I understand string theory correctly, one aspect says that the Big Bang resuled from a collision of the membranes that make up the multiple dimensions of the universe. It is incredible that he has lived as long as he has.

I know a county paramedic that was a river guide before coming a paramedic. He put Hawking in an inner tube and swam him up some tributaries of Lake Powell. Hawking is said to have fond memories of Utah. Good luck to him.  I remember seeing him when he was here in SLC in

'95.  I was pretty impressed with him before then, but seeing him in person really was cool.
