ISON tonight, 2013 MAR 05 / PanSTARRS data
Here's my latest ISON shots: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/C_2012_S1.2013MAR05.JPG Here's the latest from S&T on PanSTARRS http://www.skyandtelescope.com/skytel/beyondthepage/185665152.html I'm really trying not to get my hopes up for PanSTARRS but the latest reports sure seems encouraging. No Comet West to be sure but still a potentially nice comet. Are folks here making any plans to observe it next week? Here are data from the MPC for the comet next week calculated for SPOC: 2013 03 10 at sunset the comet is 12° above a flat western horizon, mag 0.5 2013 03 11 at sunset the comet is 14° above a flat western horizon, mag 0.6 2013 03 12 at sunset the comet is 15° above a flat western horizon, mag 0.7 2013 03 13 at sunset the comet is 16° above a flat western horizon, mag 0.9 2013 03 14 at sunset the comet is 17° above a flat western horizon, mag 1.1 2013 03 15 at sunset the comet is 17° above a flat western horizon, mag 1.3 2013 03 16 at sunset the comet is 18° above a flat western horizon, mag 1.5 2013 03 17 at sunset the comet is 18° above a flat western horizon, mag 1.7 I'm guessing the positions are accurate but I don't know that I'd trust the mag estimates. And one needs to remember that the mags are comet mags not the usually brighter stellar mags. On the 12th the comet will be 4° from a 2% illuminated Moon. Anyone here ever see a 2% illuminated Moon? I don't know if that's doable. What-do-ya-bet Tyler gets a great image of the comet next to an incredibly thin crescent Moon? :) patrick
What is the comet's approximate altitude and azimuth from downtown SLC? Mr. Kim A. Hibbert, CPM BONNEVILLE REALTY MANAGEMENT P.O. Box 71590 Salt Lake City, Utah 84171 Office: 801.947.1050 Fax: 801.947.1005 Cell: 801.580.2832 Email: khibbert@bonnevillerealty.com
Kim, right now look WNW, about a closed hand-span above the horizon. C. On Tue, Mar 19, 2013 at 8:30 PM, Kim Hibbert <khibbert@bonnevillerealty.com>wrote:

Chuck - Got your message right after you sent it. Tried again, but no luck. Maybe too much haze looking from the southeast side of the valley to the WNW. Thanks for at least pointing me in the right direction! Mr. Kim A. Hibbert, CPM BONNEVILLE REALTY MANAGEMENT P.O.
