Air Force Wants to Expand Utah Test and Training Range
This was in the Salt Lake Tribune: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politics/58537219-90/amp-robinson-force-test.ht... The USAF looks to take over some rather HUGE lands out in the West Desert. Those are some of the best local dark areas if one is willing to drive and the land includes Fish Springs and out near Simpson Springs as well. A rancher might get access but I wonder about an amateur astronomer. More loss of public land near Salt Lake City and the Pony Express Road out there will be lost as well. I bet in 30 years there will be very few dark sites left in northern Utah. I know the SQM project I am doing at four sites is showing a slight decline over the last several years. Jay
Jay, it looks like our closest good astronomy areas would be taken, including Lakeside. Is that right? If so, we should comment on the proposal. Thanks, Joe ________________________________ From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Sunday, October 26, 2014 6:50 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Air Force Wants to Expand Utah Test and Training Range This was in the Salt Lake Tribune: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politics/58537219-90/amp-robinson-force-test.ht...
