Next Friday will be coming really quick and next Saturday. I'm leaning to a two night observing session for myself. Heading south is out as I need to be in range of home since a member of my family has had some health problems at home of late. So for me, it will either be Lakeside or Wolf Creek Pass next weekend (cell range, and yes, they are both in range of my cell phone). I'm open to viewing at either location next Friday night. I won't be able to leave until around 4:30p.m. on Friday (have to get home and load). The National Weather Forecast for Hanna and the surrounding area is a good one for next Friday. Here's the projected forecast for Hanna (drop the temps a little for Wolf Creek Pass): .WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 70S. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. .THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. So Wolf Creek should be highs in low 70's by day and lows in the low 30's by night (cold night observing so if some of us go there be dressed for cold observing but seeing should be very good). Lakeside has this forecast: .WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR. HIGHS AROUND 80. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. .THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...MOSTLY CLEAR. HIGHS AROUND 90. LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. Lakeside thus should also be good and warmer with observing conditions in the 50's that night. Humidity next weekend shouldn't be a problem at Lakeside with drier air mass coming in. Anyone have a preference? I'm leaning towards Wolf Creek since we have this month and perhaps October if the weather holds (and I am NOT counting on that this year based on the rest of 2010), but I'm fine observing at either location next Friday. It's not looking good for tonight though with the wind and possible thunderstorms. I'm doing a new project with my sketching and observing and have about 16 objects I need to get in and fully sketch on those two nights . . . I'm done with Herschel 400 until January arrives. No matter what, I'll be heading out, just checking if anyone wants to link up. Cheers, Jay

Hi Friends, Here's a blog that was extremely hard to write, as I've been distracted and saddened almost to tears by what's happened to so many of my friends at the Deseret News. The layoffs are just devastating to everyone concerned. Best wishes, Joe http://www.deseretnews.com/blog/47/10009905/Nightly-news-astronomy-On-to-the...
Very sorry to hear about the massive layoffs, good luck to your friends. I'm guessing that the local market is probably too small to absorb them all quickly, eh? The good news is that I understand all were offered a severance package- though the adjective "generous" was conspicuously absent from the press release. I don't get a good feeling when listening to Gilbert. He doesn't project a very genuine aura. On 8/31/10, Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> wrote:

I did hear, on the news, that a SL Tribune writer spoke critically of the changes and was quickly fired. He mentioned the loss of many very good news reporters. Does sound like the Desert News will no longer cover local news much. I heard they plan to feature nationally syndicated writers, does not sound like a good plan for survival.

Lakeside has this forecast:
.WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR.
Cheers,

I am going to observe on both days so if may camp over, or I may do one site Friday night, sleep, go home, then hit the other site. Guess I'll figure that out come Friday when I drive out. I am worried about crowds of campers up at Wolf Creek with it being Labor Day Weekend. Anyone with experience up there on Labor Day weekend with the crowds? Next Friday will be coming really quick and next Saturday. I'm leaning to a two night observing session for myself. Heading south is out as I need to be in range of home since a member of my family has had some health problems at home of late. So for me, it will either be Lakeside or Wolf Creek Pass next weekend (cell range, and yes, they are both in range of my cell phone). I'm open to viewing at either location next Friday night. I won't be able to leave until around 4:30p.m. on Friday (have to get home and load). The National Weather Forecast for Hanna and the surrounding area is a good one for next Friday. Here's the projected forecast for Hanna (drop the temps a little for Wolf Creek Pass):
.WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR.
Lakeside has this forecast:
.WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...CLEAR.

Hello -- Well, 'tho tomorrow's a work day, tonight's the night without a humidity spike at midnight. I'll probably go to Lakeside, so I wanted to find out if anyone was planning on being there. I'll probably go about 1:00 am, so I didn't want to blind anyone. Herschel-wise I've seen everything up through Orion, which doesn't come up before the moon, and is toward the city from Lakeside, but I prefer Lakeside to any of the places I go east of town. I have 8 very difficult Caldwells left until I've seen all seeable from this area, so I'll probably concentrate attention there. ---- Rev.
