Nice. When and where did you take the pictures? patrick On 29 Mar 2013, at 23:38, Dave Gary wrote:

Nebulosity shows the time stamp for the FITS exposures at 21:10 and 21:27, respectively. I took the photos from a location called Tuscany Hills just off Dixie Drive. It’s a new development on a hill to the west of Dixie Drive in St. George. There’s still a lot of vacant lots. I just drive until the paved road ends and set up in an area just off the paved road. There’s not very many street lights and the houses behind me don’t have too many lights. The location affords a good view of the western horizon. Of course, now, the comet is in the northwest and the view is better than last week because the western hills taper off to the northwest from this location affording a better view of the horizon. Last week I could have never seen the comet at 21:27 because it would have already gone behind the hills. From what the weather forecast is showing that’s it for me for this weekend. The weather looks pretty dismal for imaging. It was nice last night and the hospital called me out early for Tc99m and I was able to risk setting up for an imaging session without the fear of being interrupted by emergency calls. Some days I luck out. Dave On Mar 30, 2013, at 12:07 AM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Beautiful photo, Dave. I too went out last night to try and see the comet in the eyepiece of my 10" SCT. I have only (barely) seen it through long exposure photography up to now. Once I found it I was amazed at how beautiful it was. The tail fans out nicely, and seemed to be concentrated at the edges, making it appear almost like a forked tongue. I tried getting photos of it which was fun: http://sandydavidsons.blogspot.com/2013/03/comet-c2011-l4-panstarrs.html But in the eyepiece it looked a lot more like Dave's photo! I did get what is probably my best Orion Nebula photo to date last night: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/42zW5TZiLGJoexnHvWpD6o4-OAT2Q9xjTKwkMv... One step at a time... Thanks, Dion. It’s good you could get some photos of the comet, also. Pretty good photos for just holding a camera up to the eyepiece. I don’t think I could do that. The photo would be to blurry from my trying to hold the camera steady. Nice Orion image. The colors are striking. You can see the Trapezium. That’s not visible in my photos. I, too, have a lot to learn. On Mar 30, 2013, at 4:07 PM, Dion Davidson <diondavidson@yahoo.com> wrote:

I had to use goto on my scope to spot it this evening but once I found it with the scope (C-5) I was able to spot it, but just barely, in 10x50. That was about half an hour ago. Now that it's getting dark and I know where to look it's looking very nice in the 10x50. Can't see it with the C-5 as it's now behind a tree from the C-5's location and considering it's bolted to several tons of concrete and steel it would be tough to move. :) Still another half hour or so before it sets from here near SPOC so I'm going back out to look again as the sky gets even darker. patrick On 30 Mar 2013, at 16:07, Dion Davidson wrote:
