The free app I added to my android phone is called "color flashlight". Yes, it shines a perfect red light from the screen for reading star charts! The same app can also make the flash LED work as a flashlight as well as do all kinds of cool things, for example, a flashing red light while walking in the dark or a flashing red and blue highway patrol light to scare other drivers on the road! Since that can be done with iPhones it would not surprise me if it can also be done on your phone.
