Total Eclipse May 28, 1900,
*Wadesboro, NC, *was once the locus of attention also. On May 28, 1900, this NC town was the center of great scientific interest because it was the prime place for viewing the event. Here is a link to a Smithsonian article about the excitement. Wadesboro was full of scientists and their equipment (*two full box cars* of telescopes and other equipment were brought here)! Here is a link to an old report on that event in Wadesboro, very interesting for historians, astronomy buffs, and all Ansonians! https://ia802704.us.archive.org/16/items/1900solareclipse00smitrich/ 1900solareclipse00smitrich.pdf If you scan through, you will also find old photographs of the scientific encampment, some of the equipment, and photographs of the sun in eclipse. -- ******** Beverley Getzen Retired, US Army Corps of Engineers PO Box 202 Wadesboro, NC 28170-0202 704-694-7022 "There are times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time we fail to protest."
