There was a question here a few days ago asking if China had put a flag on the Moon. I've been waiting a few days to see if they would try to do that maybe with some sort of robot arm. But there's been no news since the landing (which seems odd to me) so here's the best I could come up with: http://www.sastind.gov.cn/n7812/n136428/n136437/c136596/pic_136596.jpg patrick

If they did, the flag would probably wiggle while being forced into the ground, which would provide proof that they did not really land on the moon, it was all filmed in the Gobi deserts..... :) (By the way, I am pleased to see them moving forward with their space program. Although I really want SpaceX to make a commercial success of themselves, the bigger picture is for mankind as a whole to expand it's knowledge and capability. ) Jo On Dec 19, 2013, at 10:25 AM, Erik Hansen <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:

SpaceX is on schedule to start sending astronauts to the space station, that is if they can repair the cooling system. I really don't understand the hoopla about China doing something the US did 50 years ago. Big whoop.

I don't think it's so much of fanfare that they are doing something that we did 50 years ago, it's that we aren't still doing it. I like to look at it this way: China has a small battery powered rover on the Moon. We have a 2 ton nuclear powered science lab that landed using it's own crane on Mars. Dan -- Sent from an iPad. There should be less mispelings, but more errors. On Dec 19, 2013, at 12:18 PM, "Erik Hansen" <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> wrote:

Many hail it as the loss of US leadership in space exploration.

We have landed 4 rovers successfully on Mars. I believe 2 of them are still operational. Let people believe what the will. If taxpayers don't like it, maybe they'll elect people to congress who will correct that situation. On Fri, Dec 20, 2013 at 9:43 AM, Erik Hansen <erikhansen@thebluezone.net>wrote:

If we put NASA funding to a vote.... Well the result may not be favorable. NASA funding may be small percentage of the budget, but that is largely due to the size of the budget. That same amount could build a lot of infrastructure.

No way is this senior citizen going to let NASA have any more money. It should go to me, one of the many millions of entitled senior citizens entering their retirement years with a few medical ailments that are sure to multiply over the next few years. ________________________________ From: Erik Hansen <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Friday, December 20, 2013 2:13 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Flag on the Moon

LoL! Actually it would not surprise me to hear of such conspiracy theories given the number of crazies out there.

Me too. Maybe it'll serve as a kick in the rear, like Sputnik did. But even if it does not, humans are meant to explore so someone is going to get us out there someday. If not "us" then "them". But better still I'd prefer it be "us and them". patrick (not speaking for anyone but me)
