This would be my 2nd choice (it's about 1 hour drive from my house in Lindon in Utah County to SPOC); would the tube for the new scope be installed by then? Rich --- Chuck Hards <chuckhards@yahoo.com> wrote:

Rich, it's hard to say. The person responsible for building the optical supports is out-of-state for the winter, and incommunicado. It is conceivable that the tube would be installed, sans optics. Chuck --- Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> wrote:

Another option being discussed is getting the Big Scope on line using borrowed smaller ("only" half meter) optics until the full size optics become available. Patrick Chuck Hards wrote:

Hi all, I would vote not to mount any "sub-caliber training device" (oops, that's an old army term, I meant smaller mirror) in the tube while we are waiting for the 37 inch to be done. I would think that it would take a lot of work to rebalance the whole system and we may over-stress our fearless construction crews. I don't know if the Ealing will be in before the big one but in any case I for one can wait. We can always bring our personal scopes out for any star parties and just use the adjacent grounds. Just my meager and humble opinion. 73 de n7zi Gary Liptrot n7zi@attbi.com

As a SLAS officer, I don't mind if you have a swap meet at the SPOC II site. The land is basically a public park anyway, and it's meant to be used by the public. I would suggest having it a little bit away from the observatory, so as not get get in the way of any construction taking place.
