Deep Impact questions for Patrick
Hi Patrick, couple of questions to clarify the timing: Impact is at 7:52 UT according to the ESA Website. I'm assuming that is actually the time that the visible wavefront hits earth, and not the actual impact time? Visible impact would then be at approx. 11:52 pm MDT? This event will be fairly low, have you scouted the northwestern horizon from SPOC to make sure it won't be behind any trees? I have a portable projection screen that will certainly be more reflective than a wall, would you like me to bring it? I plan on attending the "Wallop Watch". Thanks again, see you at Crunch Time. Also, I'm assuming that the roof(s) or observatory walls will not interfere? THX __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

This event will be fairly low, have you scouted the northwestern horizon from SPOC to make sure it won't be behind any trees? A few of us have been out the last three nights looking at times a few minutes past 11:52 and we still have full aperture.
I have a portable projection screen that will certainly be more reflective than a wall, would you like me to bring it? Please bring it. I think we've already arranged for one but I'd feel better if we had backup.
Also, I'm assuming that the roof(s) or observatory walls will not interfere? Walls and roofs are not a problem until after midnight. And when they do become a problem Bruce will have the ADA scope set up outside.

Hi Chuck, Siegfried brought a screen to SPOC tonight. Once I got the satellite feed working we used the projector to project it onto Sieg's screen and it worked fine. He left the screen there so there's no need for you to bring yours (but thanks for offering). BTW, I see that the separation of the impactor went right as planned. It won't be much longer now, girls and boys! I can't help but wonder how (dis)similar the impactor's last few images will be to the last few returned by each of the Ranger spacecraft back in the 60s. I'm hyped! Patrick
