Chuck,
Although you are no longer on Joe's Christmas card list... *;o)*
To be clear, I didn't have Joe in mind. The list of the guilty is only available under duress. :) - Kurt
I was performing my annual year-end top-to-bottom office clean-up today, and found a print-out of a news story on comet McNaught that had fallen off the note board and slipped between the desk and the wall, apparently it's been there a couple of years now. It reminded me of the "live shot" of Venus a local TV station aired, while telling viewers it was the nucleus of comet McNaught. Yes, Joe left some big shoes to fill. Which makes me wonder if journalists are like wrestlers...did he actually leave a pair of empty shoes at his old desk on his last day at the paper? ;o) On Mon, Dec 29, 2008 at 4:50 PM, Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

Rather than list the guilty (too long a list anyway) I'll start a list of local print journalists with whom I have interviewed and who have always striven to get it right (despite what editors have later done to mess things up <g>). Joe, of course, is at the top of my list having been doing science for what seems like forever and who many times seemed to be the only science reporter with an interest in science. I know he's happy in retirement but his absence in the local media is sorely missed. I keep bugging him about writing (maybe even under a pseudonym) for D News as a part time stringer (his wife seems to like the idea...) but, like I say, he's happy in retirement. Next up is Sheena. She hasn't been at it all that long and much of the time she's been writing science stories, science wasn't (maybe still isn't?) her "real" beat. But my interviews with her are always in depth (and I'm amazed her typing can keep up with how fast I talk). For my "up and coming" list I'm happy to report Clayton Norlen at D News who (though not a science writer) has expressed interest and during a recent interview seemed to be genuinely interested. He apparently only does weekends and his beat isn't science but let's hope he works out. patrick p.s. Regarding the shoes Chuck suspects Joe left behind: I think he kept them so he could hurl them at someone later on. :) On 29 Dec 2008, at 16:50 , Canopus56 wrote:
