CalSky is calling for a nice ISS pass over norther Utah this evening:
Thanks for the heads-up, Patrick. I went out back and got some video with the smartphone set at maximum zoom. Hand-held, so forgive the shakiness. One video is from about the time I first spotted the ISS in the NW until well past culmination. The other is the station as it neared the moon, from my perspective. These are Mp4 files so Quicktime runs them just fine. http://s260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/JethroTull1958/ATM/Astro/
Those are neat, Chuck. You can tell that the ISS is more than a point of light. Almost as cool as http://www.spaceflightnow.com/station/exp30/120105issmoon/ Quite possible taken at the same time as your video. Jared
Wow, really great video. And thank you Patrick for the heads up and detailed info. Curious to note the different perspectives possible even in the same city... I watched this ISS overpass from my front yard near 700S and 1100E and it appeared to "hit the moon" smack in the middle, it was really cool to see it dissappear in the glare of the moon and reappear, I wish I had been filming too! Hi Ian, FWIW you can go to CalSky's website (http://www.calsky.com) and sign up to receive emails alerting you anytime ISS will pass in front of the Moon or Sun as seen from your location. Other things you can sign up to be notified about include ISS visibility, aurora, satellites decaying near you, comets, lunar occultations, iridium flares, meteor showers, eclipses and supernovae. There's also an option to be notified when the zodiac signs change but for some reason I've not signed up for that one. :) patrick On 05 Jan 2012, at 22:08, Ian Glenn wrote:
