Rob don't spill the beans! Oh, what the heck, go ahead. Ever try one long enough to get the secondary bow? Or is it there and my screen isn't good enough to see it? --- Jim Gibson <jimgibson00@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hi Chuck VERY VERY VERY faint secondary arc, really faint, and my camera doesn't have good averted vision :^)
Hi Jim Moonbow photo It's real, I went to get a drink of water, saw something odd, it was a moonbow so I decided to shoot because in the past I've just admired them w/ no photo. I put the DSLR on a tripod w/ a 16mm rectilinear fisheye and did a series of shots looking for one that had the most color. Then into Photoshop for levels, contrast and sharpening and a bit of house window light removal. It was posted on SpaceWeather for a few days, it was the 3rd image on that site in 10 days. There was another moonbow a couple hours later w/ a wider band, stronger color but low to the local houses, didn't shoot that one but I wish I had. Oh well ............. Aloha Rob
Great shot! I guess the high humidity really helps in that case. Best wishes, Joe
Moon bows are as common as rainbows, from my experience. Like Rob said, to the naked eye it is VERY faint, even when the moon is full, too dim to discern the colors. But with a sufficiently long time-exposure, it would be indistinguishable from a daytime, sun-caused rainbow photograph. Most of us don't see them often because we are not outdoors for any length of time on moonlit, partly-cloudy nights. --- Joe Bauman <bau@desnews.com> wrote:
