Re: [Utah-astronomy] Global Cooling
Ah Contraire Jim, I watched a science program on Discover, Science Channel or Nat'l Geoographic (I cannot remember which), that discussed the so-called "noise" in the global warming data. The data presented on the program confirms beyond a shadow of doubt that humans are contributing more CO2 into the atmosphere than the Earth can handle. This is the same exact data that NOAA, NASA and other international science institutes are using to support their claims of human induced global warming. If I can find the link to that particular program on one of their websites, I will post it here. All I see from these statements are personal opinions, with nothing scientific to back them up. I understand everyone has their own opinion, but if one is discussing science, then scientific data should be provided. That seems reasonable does it not? Stay tuned for a link if I can find it. Jon
Jon, I beg to differ with you. You cannot say "Cofirms beyond a shadow of a doubt" All the data available cannot determine either way beyond a shadow of a doubt. It is important that real science prevails and is not watered down with predjudice feelings. Rodger,
Yes, it is important that real science prevail, the "real" atmospheric scientist are saying they are 90% certain. They admit they are not certain but they were only 67% certain in 2001. I have serious doubts that the Oil, Gas, and Coal industry are producing non biased conclusions. They have much more to lose. Can you be sure that man not the major source? What data do you have to prove that? I have heard many times that volcanos produce more CO2 than man. I would really like to see scientific data that shows that. from Oregon State University: Present-day carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from subaerial and submarine volcanoes are uncertain at the present time. Gerlach (1991) estimated a total global release of 3-4 x 10E12 mol/yr from volcanoes. While this is a conservative estimate, man-made (anthropogenic) CO2 emissions overwhelm this estimate by at least 150 times. Here is a discussion that explores scenarios from man contributing no CO2 all the way to 100% of the CO2. http://www.strom.clemson.edu/becker/prtm320/commons/carbon3.html Erik Jon, I beg to differ with you. You cannot say "Cofirms beyond a shadow
of a doubt" All the data available cannot determine either way beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Jon, You made one of my points Ø I understand everyone has their own opinion, but if one is discussing science, then scientific data should be provided< I said we don’t have enough data to show how much is normal and how much is man cause. So, Jon, no opinions, where are the data that says we know the long cycle norms for worming and cooling? How much over the norm are we contributing? I did say, I may have missed it, but I have not seen anyone say they know the long cycle norms.
