M100 Neighborhood - A new image from my homemade astrograph
Hi all, This image was taken from my backyard observatory over two recent nights in April, 2013, with my homemade astrograph. It is one of my favorite objects in the sky, and I just love looking around the image at all the smaller galaxies, of which there are literally hundreds. This may be my personal favorite astrophoto I have ever taken. The full version is worth looking at to enjoy all the smaller galaxies. Another great job. Fun to count all the background galaxies. Do you plan to shoot 2011 L4 (PANSTARRS) some morning soon? patrick On 05 May 2013, at 22:40, Tyler Allred wrote:

Thanks Patrick. I might give PANSTARRS a try. It might be fun. So far I have only photographed PANSTARRS with my Nikon 300mm F/2.8 lens. I seem to be focused on galaxies because I can get more detail now with the longer focal length. I need to ask you about entering ephemeris data to the Paramount. I know you track objects all the time, but I need a lesson. Perhaps we can discuss it privately through my email. Hi Tyler, It's currently only moving about 2 arc seconds per minute so I don't know that it would be necessary to guide on the comet. Just let the ME run on sidereal rate for a few minutes. I get my ephemerides here: http://www.minorplanetcenter.org/iau/MPEph/MPEph.html Enter 2011 L4 in the space near the top and then go down to the "Format for elements output:" area near the bottom and click on "TheSky (Software Bisque)" and then click on "Get ephemerides/HTML page" and the elements should download to your computer. That file is then imported into TheSky by: Data > Comets and Minor Planets > Comets > Import Then navigate to the file you downloaded and click Open and then click on the file and then OK and finally OK again. An image of the comet should then appear on the star chart. If you decide to have the mount follow the comet instead of sidereal click on the image of the comet on the sky chart. That will open the Object Information box. In there you'll find a tab labeled Set Tracking Rates. Click on that and the mount will start to follow the comet. As with most computer things it's all pretty simple once you've done it a time or two but if you'd like some real time help those first couple of times just ring me and I'll talk you through it. Good luck, patrick On 05 May 2013, at 22:58, Tyler Allred wrote:

Thanks Patrick. I appreciate the help. It sounds pretty straight forward, so I will give it a try and let you know how it turns out. Cheers, Tyler Sent with AquaMail for Android http://www.aqua-mail.com On May 5, 2013 11:30:15 PM Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Holy cow, Tyler, that is awesome! As you said, all of the other galaxies add so much to the image. In an earlier post, you said you would like to attend an ATM session. We would love you have you join us. I'll be posting soon with upcoming dates. Thanks Mat. I will come if the time works for me. I would really like to get the Coulter fixed up for some eyepiece time.
