Re: [Utah-astronomy] Meade now contemplating bankruptcy instead of selloff
Truly depressing. It baffles me that anyone could prefer looking at the stars via Ipad over using a telescope. It's the difference of porno vs love -- no comparison. ------------------------------ On Mon, Jul 8, 2013 11:37 AM MDT Chuck Hards wrote:

The board recommended that the stock holders reject the MITC offer and to go along with the JOC/NA offer. Below is a link to the latest news as the S & T one is a few days old now. I and others found the LA Times article to be somewhat lacking in its info. I do hope they do approve of the JOC offer as JOC owns Meade Europe and Explore Scientific. There is a 33 page thread at CN that makes for an interesting read. TO me at least the worst thing Meade ever did was going public. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/meades-board-directors-recommends-stockholders... I feel bad for the employees that may end up getting screwed by all this. But I have little sympathy for management considering the horror stories we've all heard (poor Boyd, U of U, Westminster, SLAS...). I'm just glad we (SLAS) got our brand new but broken mount fixed before the company goes under for good. patrick On 08 Jul 2013, at 14:00, Robert Taylor wrote:

I wonder if I could pick up one of those LX850s for cheap. I drool over that thing with every issue of S&T I get. Those smart phone apps show nebulae in glorious color where we only see them in shades of green/grey in our telescopes. I can see the problem. Some time ago, there was a thread on this site lamenting the fact that the local astronomy clubs seemed to be aging due to lack of younger people wanting to join. Looks like we need a new astronomy TV series similar to Sagan's Cosmos, with a handsome (or cute female) professor. If it increased interest in astronomy in the UK, maybe it'd do likewise here. ________________________________ From: Joe Bauman <josephmbauman@yahoo.com> To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Monday, July 8, 2013 11:56 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Meade now contemplating bankruptcy instead of selloff Truly depressing.
