Hi All, I've tried and failed to register for the group rate at Ruby's Inn for ALCON. The section that was mentioned in previous posts, for group rates under reservations, seems not to exist. When I checked the ALCON web site, it says: "Registration for ALCon 2011 will be available in a few days. DO NOT SIGNUP for anything just yet!! We are in the process of testing the registration system. You risk being charged an incorrect amount and it will take additional time and effort for us to refund your money." Best wishes, Joe
Hmmm, I've had mine for quite a while. Maybe the Club ALCOR should check that out. No replacement yet?

I can only afford one such outing this year, and I'm already registered for a sports-car meet in Vegas in May. So you folks going to ALCON be sure to take lots of pics!
See below if you wish to participate in the ALCON 2011 public star party and email me the appropriate information (email me at the address below DO NOT REPLY DIRECTLY TO THIS MESSAGE): If you participate at least one night with a scope at the ALCON Public Star Party (same place as Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival), you will receive free admission to the Park and a free campsite for all four nights. In order to participate please email Don Colton at djcolton@piol.com with the following information: 1. Name 2. Nights you will be participating. 3. Scope 4. Vehicle type and plate number. 5. If camping is desired and if so, do you want tent camping or RV camping. Space on the telescope field is limited, particularly since Orion will have their 36" Dob at the public star party all four nights. We also expect participation from other clubs. We will need to limit the scopes on the field to a total of 45. Clear Skies, Don Colton

They probably haven't made one yet. The 36 should be pretty awesome with Bryce's skies. Big telescopes do have a draw complete with the long lines, those lines do thin out. It would be a fun scope to look through. Does it also come with a big ladder? I imagine the public will start at the 36". Putting the 36" at the

Actually, I think I know how they will raise people up to the eyepiece and at the same time keeping the line manageable. They will attach a bungee cord to one of the tall ponderosa trees and hook it to the observer. You will have one jump to observe through their massive telescope.
