January SLAS meeting
Great meeting last night, terrific speaker. It was good to get to a meeting and I hope to make many more this year. Also good to see so many old friends, and make some new ones. Lots of new faces- new to me anyway! Kelly had a good time as well, despite her initial misgivings. Yes, Rodger definitely needs to wear the official Presidential Hat. It lends him some badly needed gravitas. (Just kidding!) I'd like to speak with Dr. Seth again, hopefully we can drag him out to SPOC a few times this year. Lots of questions on his project that time last night didn't permit.
Agreed, I also really enjoyed his presentation and delivery, and the fact that he hung around for the rest of the meeting. I was able to approach him afterward with additional questions that he seemed happy to answer. Also, a large and fun group at advanced training! ________________________________ From: Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, January 17, 2013 8:41 AM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] January SLAS meeting Great meeting last night, terrific speaker. Dang, Sounds like I missed a really good meeting. My wife and I were not feeling well and could not make it. Dang Dang Dang. Me too. Had another heart ablation on Monday. On light duty for 10 days, cannot drive until Fri, so Carol has to haul me to work & pick me up, which I know is a pain in the #@* for her. So, it was just easier to stay home as we both were pretty bushed (Mark, I know how that goes). BTW, Chuck, w/have to miss the 26th L&O function. The 26th is my birthday and I have a son coming in from VA to ski w/Dan & me. Will look forward to the next session. 73 On 1/17/2013 11:12 AM, Mark Shelton wrote:

Larry, Dan emailed me and tipped me off to your birthday. We were going to have the waitress stick a candle in your piece of pie. Or your mashed potatoes if you decided to skip dessert. Take care of yourself, have fun with the boys, and Happy Birthday! We'll see you at the next L&O meeting- and probably at the next SLAS general meeting. FWIW, he is a SLAS member. And, yes, good meeting. He spoke at a level I think most in the audience could understand. And a plus that he kept on topic and did not go overtime. Also, what did folks here think of earlier meeting start time? (I liked it.) patrick
Terrific. The traffic was still a bit thick enroute, but not too bad taking the road less traveled. From I-80, I avoided 13th east (a parking lot) and took 15th east which was practically deserted. Having grown-up in that area, I know all the short-cuts. :-) I didn't go up to Foothill, as that would be too much back-tracking coming from my direction.
