I flew over the same country today on my way back from Phoenix. Did you see the nasty clouds around Mt. Nebo? I have a photo, but probably not great quality. My camera was buried in the freight I was hauling back. I had to use my cell phone. You would also like the polygonical ice in the Great Salt Lake now too - between Fremont Island and the Antelope Island causeway. ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: utah astronomy listserve utah astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 27, 2011 8:25 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] BYU Observatory As promised here are some pictures from earlier today of BYU's observatory on West Mountain: patrick _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php
These are cool, Patrick. Too bad BYU's observatory is so snotty about not allowing visitors. Otherwise I'd probably like to do a blog about them. -- jb ________________________________ From: Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> To: utah astronomy listserve utah astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 27, 2011 8:25 PM Subject: [Utah-astronomy] BYU Observatory As promised here are some pictures from earlier today of BYU's observatory on West Mountain: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/BYU01.JPG http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/BYU02.JPG http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/BYU03.JPG http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/BYU04.JPG And just for fun... Great to see you and the gang too, Larry. Non-aficionados have no idea what they're missing. We really enjoyed seeing your little grandson! Great shots Patrick! What camera/lens did you use? Those Ice shots were really cool. too bad we couldn't all get a tour of the observatory, the views from there look like they'd be pretty memorable. Howard On Tue, Dec 27, 2011 at 8:25 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com>wrote:

Thanks Howard.

Camera body is a Nikon D70. Lens is Signma 28-300. For the observatory shots the lens was zoomed all the way out. For the others it was all the way in.

I don't know that they ruled it out entirely. Sounded to me like they just didn't want large groups up there.
