I found a really interesting webpage about solar observing, one that addresses a few myths that I admit I have also held for years. I recommend reading before tomorrow's eclipse, especially for those who will be interpreting the event for the public: http://mintaka.sdsu.edu/GF/vision/Galileo.html. Have a great eclipse! (Even if you do go to Kanarravile.) Kim
Are we trying to say that UV and IR radiation won't hurt your eyes? I think many eye doctors might disagree with that, I would be careful about telling people they can look at the sun without protection.
I remember when a telescope left uncovered collected the morning sun, the scope caught on fire. Optics and eyes can be hurt by the sun. I seem to remember Brent "exploded" an eyepiece doing a projection. I found a really interesting webpage about solar observing, one that

No explosion. But there was a bit of smoke from the inside of the tube. ________________________________ From: "erikhansen@thebluezone.net" <erikhansen@thebluezone.net> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2012 11:31 AM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Solar observing

eye disease caused by sun exposure (what Galileo contracted is on the list)
http://www.news-medical.net/news/2006/07/25/19056.aspx Websites downplaying the risk of sun exposure may have some serious liability issues. Erik I found a really interesting webpage about solar observing, one that
