Re: [Utah-astronomy] Another movie from P Wiggins StarDust Bus flyby
You were thinking about a star field with a trail of dots right? That's right Howard. Patrick said he is doing dark and white flats. That also may help by subtracting out some of the noise. - Kurt

Congrats. You're too modest. You mean the images that you took will be on the NASA website in the form of a movie. -;) - Kurt
Kurt that image is done! I sent it to Patrick so maybe he'll post it on his website soon, I didn't want to post it on my Flickr page since I didn't take the shots. <sigh> sure miss the gallery! Howard --- On Thu, 1/15/09, Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

Hi Howard, I received the image. Looks fine. Feel free to post the image where you like (I'm claiming no copyright). All I ask is an image credit. Regarding the gallery, Ken hopes to unveil the new gallery at this evening's SLAS board of directors meeting (all are welcome to attend) so hopefully it will be available for all SLAS members very soon. BTW, my ISP tells me I've got too much stuff on their servers so when I get home this afternoon I'm going to have to take down most of the flyby images. So anyone still wanting them should get them now. patrick On 15 Jan 2009, at 12:01, Howard Jackman wrote:

OK I've posted it to my Flickr page here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27963332@N06/3199951444/ Feel free to download it just click on the tab on top "all sizes" and you'll see the full size version and be able to save it. I don't think I'll keep it there too long, after all it's not mine. Thanks again to Patrick for letting me play with all these images it's been fun!! I enjoyed watching the individual frames stack up as the "ant trail" worked it's way across the star field, very interesting to watch as the noise and artifacts increased after shot 10! Details on the image are these, I used a free program I found called Startrails to stack and combine all the images,it was wicked fast and simple to use, a very basic program. You can use dark frames to subtract but I didn't download those so I just saved the composite from Startrails, then in Photoshop I layered shot #5 (of the first 10 it seemed to be the darkest/cleanest one) then I masked in the Stardust trail. FUN!! Enjoy and btw there are 2 astroimages in my photostream near page 7 or 6 I think, one Lunar one of Jupiter. Howard --- On Thu, 1/15/09, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Wow that's cool! I never get them to accept anything, the secret apparently is to have someone else take the pictures, push a few buttons then just slap my name on it! I just like that they called me an "astronomer" 'See honey it's official now I have to buy that new scope!!' Think it'll work??? LOL Nice work all around I think.
