I'm interested in observing the Mercury transit on May 9. I think it will be visible from here, but I don't know the timing. Can anyone help? Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone
The transit of Mercury will begin at sunup. It will be visible if we are not clouded out. SLAS is sponsoring a party at the Bangerter Crossing Harmon's located just east of I-15 where Bangerter crosses. The watch will be from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Thanks Rodger C. Got a quick look in at the transit just before clouds covered the sun. I enjoy seeing the vast size difference between Mercury/Venus and the sun during their transits. Hopefully others got/get to take a look also at the transit today. I set up a white light/H-a tandem rig here at work today. Cloudy at sunrise but then 3 hours of perfectly clear blue skies and terrific views. Just clouded over again at 11:00. I watched this Mercury transit about thirty feet from where I watched the last one, just outside my office & shop. On Mon, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM, Hutchings, Mat <mat.hutchings@siemens.com> wrote:

There were a few clouds to deal with, but for most part clear views of the sun, Mercury, and some fairly impressive sun spots. The locations were South Jordan, and Draper. I went to the group at Harmons-Draper. I not take a scope, but enjoyed the variety of filters and the great views provided by the group. I too, was struck by the discernible difference between Venus & Mercury. Dan forwarded me a nice photo taken in Denver using his short tube 80 and a Nikon DSLR though a glass filter. All in all, a very enjoyable morning. 73
