Not quite as off-topic as the Tree of Utah banter; at least it involves mention of alien life and interstellar distances. I like the guy's hair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut82TDjciSg&feature=channel&list=UL

Filking is always good. Especially when it involves Cthulhu. Jess's favorite toy when she was a toddler was a stuffed Cthulhu. She still has it, and it's joined by slippers, and a larger one. I had a bumper sticker on a car long ago that said 'My money and my sanity go to Miskatonic University. Go Pods!'. And there have only been 2 books that I've stayed up all night to finish because they creeped me out so much...One was Stephen King's 'Pet Sematary', the other was Lovecraft's 'At the Mountains of Madness'. So no, not a Lovecraft fan. :-) Dan On Jul 14, 2012, at 6:38 PM, Chuck Hards wrote:

Hey Dan, Hastur Hobbies still carries the stuffed Cthulhu as well as the bumper stickers for the new ride. 30 years ago I worked with a local author who was a member of an amatuer press dedicated to the Lovecraftian genre. His contribution was a fanzine called "Sepulchral Spawnings", and I frequently illustrated it for him. On Mon, Jul 16, 2012 at 11:35 AM, Daniel Holmes <danielh@holmesonics.com>wrote:

Where do you think I got 'em? I brought her still in her carrier, Bob came rushing over and said "I've been waiting for you...here". Jen just rolled her eyes. He had just opened the new location, and well before he added comic books and LAN gaming. And now she wants the backpack for school. I used to edit a lot of RPGs, which brought me around there quite often. Nowadays I do more painting of miniatures than gaming, and they don't stock the paints that I like. So I only get in there a few times a year. Dan On Jul 16, 2012, at 11:48 AM, Chuck Hards wrote:

Cool! I've been with a group for the last 35 years that plays a WWI airwar game using miniatures on stands. It's a pre-computer flight simulator. One of the designers used to consult for the Air Force. We met when he was in college and I was in jr. high. We'd game in the basement of a U of U Radiology professor on Saturday nights. The good doctor has long since retired and moved away (and interestingly gave up gaming in favor of astronomy, in retirement!). Since about 2002 we've been meeting at Hastur on Thursday nights, although with the death of one of the game designers in January of this year, we switched to every-other Thursday. I've been so busy at work this year that I've only made it 2 or 3 times since February, however. Bob has been known to game with us on occassion...when he and Roland aren't busy taking inventory on cards for eBay sales, that is... You should drop by one of these nights, bring the kids, we have several players who bring theirs. I believe the next game is scheduled for the 26th, 6:30 PM. We have all the WWI aircraft models and gaming supplies, you needn't bring a thing. It's old-school wargaming at it's best.
