Don't worry Patrick. He can propose all the stupid bills he want's, I think pressure from the public and semi conscious legislators will do the right thing in the end and keep science as science. You noticed that he seems to have backed away a bit from his original stance. The people who oppose his view should continue to pressure their representative and make their views known. Don't underestimate Buttars and the power of the Dodo Forum - I mean Eagle Forum. Y'all may be interested (or not) to know that Mr. Buttars did not have the courtesy to reply to the letter that I sent to him when this issue first drew so much attention following President Bush's casual endorsement of ID. (BTW, I notice that Mr. Buttars seems to take much encouragement from Bush's comments.) I'm not going to let this die. I'm a Utahn, of the dominant religious persuasion, I think of myself as an active, believing Christian, I make no apologies for it, but I'm not going to stand by while fools like Buttars impose this stupid idea on the teaching of science in public schools. If those of you who expressed an interest in joining me earlier wish to continue to be a part of my efforts, let me know offline. I'll be writing Buttars again soon, as well as my local representative. I hope y'all will do the same. Kim
Kim, you can include me with your latest efforts. I'm thinking of writing a letter to the editor. Scott --- Kim Hyatt <kimharch@cut.net> wrote:

I think the Vatican, of all people, coming out just today strongly against ID is VERY telling! As a biochemist/scientist, I am tired of the tirades against real science and partial, weak truths on the other side - it just is not science and it is just not Right, except literally. I suggest Buttars look at the outcome in Dover, PA. My sister teachers there in that school and said this subject has so polarized the community. It resulted in recall of ALL the School Board members pushing for this church sponsored 'education' mandate! I know Utah is "different" but we can get Utah into the national media attention each step of the way. This country was founded on separation of church and state and now we have a governement intent on rewriting history with their own slant, BUT(tars), this far right fraction is NOT the majority of this great country - at best its only 30+% - they only ones till supporting this corrupt, ideological misdirected thinking. Wake up America and take your power back unitl we can get a change in leadership and our great country back on track representing the majority of the people and everyones beliefs.
