I'm glad ya had a good laugh CH. I chuckle when I picture Fred coaxing a harnessed dinosaur into squatting in the mud as an office joke... B) I should have mentioned that it was a great article as usual Joe. Thanks for lending so much to this group and for giving everyone a knowledgeable perspective on the world of science. BTW, my daughter and her family are in St. George this week. I'll try to relay this info to her. Her oldest son James is very science-minded and would love the adventure in learning. That's very kind of you, Gary. I was at the Johnson farm when they were just starting to turn over slabs, and it was amazing. Anyone who goes there would enjoy it. I think they charge $3 for adults, less for kids. Best wishes, Joe
As I wrote yesterday, everyone who even passes through St. George should stop and see the tracks at the Johnson farm. I believe that there is now an official UDOT sign on the freeway to mark the exit. I understand that dinosaur (or other large animal) tracks or footprints are fairly common in coal seams. I recall seeing a number of prints and coal casts at the natural history museum in Price. If I remember correctly, one of them was identified as a T-Rex print. Does anyone know more about dino tracks in coal? My remark yesterday about the age of the earth didn't even get a rise from anyone. Either y'all are losing your sense of humor, or I've misjudged mine. Kim
Kim, I don't think we are losing our sense of humor, but I for one didn't get your message from yesterday. Anybody else still having problems? I checked the list's messages at: http://mailman.xmission.com/lurker/list/utah-astronomy.en.html and did see it listed. Kim, I didn't rise to your joke because it's so incredibly wrong -- the age of the Earth is not 6,000 years!!! According to the web site albatros.org, "Creation Week" was 3,987 B.C., which makes it only 5,994 years old! Give or take a few days. Actually, that reminds me of a funny story. My Mom told me that her father didn't believe the Earth was very old, I suppose because of just such calculations. He had a great explanation for dinosaur fossils (or, by extension, butt-prints). He contended they never belonged to animals, that God just made the fossils and put them in the ground to confuse humans for having the temerity to poke around looking for such things. -- Joe

And for stories, there was my next door neighbor who, upon hearing that I work at the University of Utah, scowled and said, "That's where they teach EVILution!" And on a different note, don't you think stories of dragons came from folks stumbling across dinosaur bones? (not to offend any dragon worshipers). Ann M. Blanchard Executive Assistant to the Assoc. I've not received anything at my Beehive account since 10:57 yesterday (Monday) morning. All postings since that time appear to be making it through to my U of U Physics account, though. That happens with some frequency. Eventually the missing ones do show up, all in a bunch. ??? pw -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces+p.wiggins=m.cc.utah.edu@mailman.xmission.com on behalf of Ken Warner Sent: Tue 4/10/2007 10:21 AM To: 'Utah Astronomy' Subject: RE: [Utah-astronomy] Dino article Kim, I don't think we are losing our sense of humor, but I for one didn't get your message from yesterday. Kim, The museum in Price is excellent. But I thought the coal imprints were 6,000-year-old Allosaurus tracks, not T-Rex (but I could be wrong) ;o) --- Kim <kimharch@cut.net> wrote:

The price is right as well. Admission is FREE. Congratulations Michael - I hope it goes well. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss an email again! Yahoo! "6 Fragments for Piano"... The term "Fragment" must have an entirely different meaning in the music world. LOL! I thought, what kind of a Piano do we have here that would require 6 grenades??? ;) Congratulations anyway! Quoting Ivo Stutznegger <ics_ute@yahoo.com>:
