I suspect that by now most green laser pointers are being sold to non-astronomers and to people who think of them as high-tech toys. I would be surprised if amateur astronomers turned out to be the culprits in the majority of these incidents. I've also been relieved that the news media haven't made a big deal of the connection of green laser pointers to the amateur astronomy community; at least I'm not aware of any reports to that affect. The police sometimes train their dogs with cap guns in the park next to my house. My dog hates that, I guess we all must pay a price for public safety.
