364 Days Until The End of the World!
I was just pondering about all the hype about December 21, 2012 marking the end of the world. With that said, I thought about what astronomical events that I would like to transpire within the next year before the world ends and these two would top my list: 1. Confirmed evidence of life outside of earth 2. Betelgeuse going supernova How about the rest of you? Rodger Fry
I'd settle for another "great comet". It's been a while for the northern hemisphere. Or Rama sailing into the solar system. That would be cool.
A classic meteor "storm". Low-latitude aurorae you can read by. A really big lunar meteorite impact. A monolith sailing past Cassini's camera.
A Meteor Storm that lasts several hours would be nice.

I'm looking forward to next year's public star parties and the opportunities that the "end of the world" will provide for interesting conversation/interpretation. Since national parks are open even to nut jobs, we should have a lot of fun next year. Just kidding Kim, but I couldn't resist that setup. ;-) _______________________________________________ Utah-Astronomy mailing list Utah-Astronomy@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/utah-astronomy Visit the Photo Gallery: http://www.slas.us/gallery2/main.php
