Re: Utah-Astronomy Digest, Vol 25, Issue 30: SPOC Directions Map
Patrick, this is a much superior map to the one in the public pamphlet. Is there a way to get a higher res image of it? John R. Peterson
If you're putting together directions, maybe this will help: http://slas.ws/images/MAPS/SPOC%20Map.jpg

I found all of the web-accessed maps to have very poor resolution, including the map posted on the SLAS website (no offense to anyone - just a weakness of what's available). I used Yahoo maps and drew over the bitmap image in AutoCad to create a somewhat better version. Unfortunately, my Adobe software went south, so I can't create a pdf file. Later today I will be able to scan the image and post a jpg of the new map. The resolution of the original map image is still bad, but the directions I've given plus what I've drawn over the image I think make it more legible for printing/reproduction. Hi, The original map was produced by SLAS member Mike Wilson in 2003. I've emailed him to see if he has a higher resolution version. I'll let you know what he says. Patrick John Peterson wrote:

I just noticed Plaza Drive is not labeled on the map. I've emailed Mike asking if he could add Plaza Dr to the map. Patrick Patrick Wiggins wrote:

Maybe I don't know what I'm doing, but when I print even the full-size image at 8-1/2x11 the resolution is so poor that the directions are barely legible, but nothing else can be read. http://www.trilobyte.net/paw/slas/maps/MAP013F.JPG printed full size would be more than twice that size. I just tried printing a section and it came out fine. Anyone else have any luck? Patrick
The whole point (for me) was to print in a usable/mailable size. I saved the image and changed the size in PS to fit an 8-1/2x11 inch page. The result is useless. Well, I used PhotoShop Elements on my G-4 to first shrink it down to 37% and then printed it. All but the smallest type is very legible. The smallest is sharp but I need a magnifying glass to read it. Any computer types out there that can help Kim with his printer? Patrick
The problem isn't in the font, inasmuch as the images are digital. I admit I am not a PS pro - perhaps there's something I'm missing. I solved my problem by just drawing a newer map for inclusion with the Astronomy Day invitations (for those who may not know their way). Thanks, anyway for the help.
