Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival
Does anyone know the dates for the Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival? According to the official Bryce Canyon Internet site, there's a brief sentence saying it's from June 21-24 but if you scroll down the page it has the 2016 schedule. It didn't help much when I looked at the Salt Lake Astronomical Society's (SLAS) page and had it listed for only June 21 - 22.
The Utah Valley club had a meeting with one of the rangers. We were told the 21st thru the 24th at that time. On Tue, Feb 21, 2017 at 12:08 PM, M Wilson via Utah-Astronomy < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

Hi All you guys in the frozen north. And some down here in St George. My Hand controller for my ETX has died. Does anyone have a Meade #497 handbox they would like to part with. Money? I am trying to set up a new member of the club down here with a trial telescope. Thanks Mark Shelton

Yes it is June 21 - 24, 2017 Here is the official page, Yes they still have last years schedule https://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/astrofest.htm Contact Don Colton if you are going to give him your info Email from Don sent last July 7, 2016 about this year: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Astronomy Volunteers, Lance Syrett, General Manager of Ruby’s Inn, has graciously provided us with discounted hotel rates for next year’s festival, June 21-24, 2017. Please click the tinyurl link below to make your reservations. Please note it defaults to Saturday, June 24, checkout - so if you can participate Saturday night be sure to change the checkout date to Sunday, June 25, before clicking “check availability”. Lance has indicated this block will be available until early spring of 2017, but it is first come-first serve until all rooms have been booked. We appreciate your support of the festival and look forward to a great festival in 2017. We also appreciate the new venue Ruby’s has provided. It was indicated that because of safety issues at the old site the Park Service would have been required to put in flood lights at the street crossing from the Visitor’s center if we had kept that venue. Thanks for your support. Don Colton SLAS Bryce Astronomy Festival Coordinator (801) 244-9291 Don, First of all thank you for helping with this event every year. I always take a night or two and put my “tourist hat” on and bring my sons up and participate in the activities. This year was no different and we had a great time. As you know, we here at Ruby’s Inn are 100% committed to making this festival happen for many years to come. I am happy that you contacted me so early to get this block of rooms set aside as well. We deal with a ton of international travelers and they book 12 to 18 months in advance, so sometimes we fill up way before people think we will. I always feel bad when we cannot accommodate great partners like SLAS because we just have no rooms available to do so. That being said, we do have rooms available for next year (because you did contact me early) and I have set up a block of rooms as you describe below. The rate is $89+tax for the block. The “magic link” to access these rooms is http://tinyurl.com/slas2017 Let me know if I can do anything else for you.
