NO, No way, Zip, Zilch, Nada Utah Astronomers! To be clear. You and your friends, family and those you invite will not have to pay the admission price to the museum to observe through SLAS scopes. The majority of our scopes, the SLAS booth and the majority of our presentation will be in free areas of the museum. SLAS will be giving away 6 telescopes, books, and other door prize type items and you and the general public will not need pay admission to enter those drawings and win those items. We have at least one radio station that will be there inviting the public to come up and take a safe look. More details later. Steve
Confirming what Steve said, before my program at the museum this afternoon the guy in charge of the transit event assured me that while the public will have to pay to get up to the heliostat and the upper observing terrace the rest of the events will be in the free area. This includes a bunch of scopes on the lower, west facing terrace which has an incredible and unobstructed view of the Salt Lake Valley and, more importantly, the western sky right down to a very low western horizon. I've indicated where the lower terrace is with a red line in this image of the west side of the building: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/terrace.jpg And the telescope operators might want to know that restrooms and the snack bar (and air conditioning) are located just a few steps away. patrick On 23 May 2012, at 08:56, Steve Fisher wrote:
