I've been scopeless and haven't been on here for several years. Anyone going out this weekend or next? I missed last month's perfect new moon so don't want to miss this month's. Craig
I think it's a bit early yet. About the 19th is the earliest I had planned to go. Sent from my iPhone

I suppose, but I'm limited to weekends and "normal" hours so I figured this weekend would still give me a couple hours before the moon came up. On Jul 12, 2017 11:14 PM, "Joe Bauman via Utah-Astronomy" < utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> wrote:

I am planning on going out to the Pit 'n Pole on the 21st. I'll mostly be taking photos, but I will probably bring my 4" refractor as well. Moonrise is 12:50 this Sunday morning, so I will probably stay in the yard this weekend. As an aside, on the 22nd the Utah Valley Astronomy Club will be holding a star party in conjunction with the Timpanogos Cave rangers. It will be held up American Fork Canyon at the Pine Hollow Trailhead campground. Here are directions: https://utahvalleyastronomyclub.wordpress.com/resources/observing-sites/pine... We've done one already this summer that was well attended. Several scopes to look through. dave On Thu, Jul 13, 2017 at 7:29 AM, Craig Smith <cs2560@gmail.com> wrote:

The Pit is the closest to me, but I'd like to bring my wife tonight so would like to go somewhere more scenic. Anyone going to Wolf Creek Pass? I signed up for SLAS on Tuesday but haven't heard back yet; not sure if there is a private star party tonight since there is the SPOC thing tomorrow. Didn't know about UVAC so just signed up for that; the public party at Pine Hollow sounds fun. Seems like somewhere at the top of the pass might be better but I guess that would be a lot harder for people to get to. On Thu, Jul 13, 2017 at 3:38 PM, David Moulton <dave@themoultons.net> wrote:

Clouds are just not being friendly this new moon. I am still deciding where I would like to go and how far it is worth traveling for. Pine hollow is close. Pit n pole is a second choice though I hate the rutted out road, and Vernon is one I tend to go for when I can spend many hours on a clear night. I have yet to try wolf creek but again I would like to try when there is a decent forecast which just doesn't seem to be this month. I am keeping my eye on the clouds and may go to the pit n pole tonight. We'll see. For what it's worth, I was on the Pony Express road last weekend and the washboard was fairly minimal. Who knows what has happened this week. I love Wolf Creek, but clouds are a huge gamble there. dave On Fri, Jul 21, 2017 at 10:58 AM, Joel Stucki <joel.stucki@gmail.com> wrote:

I have yet to try wolf creek but again I would like to try when there is a decent forecast which just doesn't seem to be this month.

Here are directions:

We've done one already this summer that was well attended. Several scopes to look through.

I ended up having to make an emergency trip to St. George, where it was also cloudy, but I was at least able to stop near Cove Fort and enjoy some beautiful skies for 15 minutes or so. On Fri, Jul 21, 2017 at 5:14 PM, Craig Smith <cs2560@gmail.com> wrote:
Farther than I thought to Monte Cristo or Weber Country North Fork Park. Not sure where else people go up there.
Lakeside doesn't look too bad after midnight. Hard to find coordinates to use with Clear Outside.

Bummer, I thought it was supposed to be clear this weekend. Haven't heard of Clear Outside, I'll check it out. Clear Sky Clock doesn't look that great for most places around here, but actually quite good up north. Might be worth a drive.

Sorry, I don't make all the decisions here, so I won't be going to P&P tonight after all.

As an aside, on the 22nd the Utah Valley Astronomy Club will be holding a star party in conjunction with the Timpanogos Cave rangers. It will be held up American Fork Canyon at the Pine Hollow Trailhead campground. Here are directions:

We've done one already this summer that was well attended. Several scopes to look through.
