Re: [Utah-astronomy] Re: Utah County Harmons
I will, early this week. Off the top of my head, I think its a good horizon. Do we need to talk to somebody at the store as well? dave -----Original Message----- From: Richard Tenney <retenney@yahoo.com> To: utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com Date: Fri, 31 May 2002 10:18:31 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Utah-astronomy] Re: Utah County Harmons Sounds like a decent idea; can you (or someone that lives close by) check out what the western horizion looks like at about 7:30pm from the parking lot? Hey Rich (and other Utah County folks),
Do you think it would be worth it to have an Eclipse party at Harmon's on the 10th?

Does anybody know of a local (Salt Lake) source for eclipse veiwing glasses? If I can, I'd like to pick a few. I'm considering getting some welding helmet lenses as an alternative; I think I can get those at a place like Wasatch Metals.

Yes, if you can find a manager or assistant and get official permission, perhaps talk them into some advertising for it... Rich --- David Moulton <dmoulton@myrealbox.com> wrote:

The sun will still be up fairly high at 8 p.m., won't it? Or am I wrong? -- Joe
The sun moves at about 15-degrees per hour, and sunset on the tenth will be pretty close to 9 pm, so without looking at a planetarium program, I'd say the sun will be no more than 15 to 20 degrees from the horizon at 8 pm, less than half the altitude of Polaris from SLC. Pretty low, but OK if your site has no obstructions to the northwest. Chuck --- Joe Bauman <bau@desnews.com> wrote:

Hey, my guess was pretty darn close for mid-eclipse! Drive to your site tomorrow at the same time as the aspect of the eclipse you are concerned about; the conditions won't be different by more than a couple of minutes ten days from now. C. --- Patrick Wiggins <paw@trilobyte.net> wrote:
From the SLC area: 28 degrees when the eclipse starts, 6 degrees when it ends. Definitely a sunset eclipse.

You might casually mention that the Harmons in Salt Lake that regulary hosts the sun parties supplies cookies and punch! ;) Chuck --- David Moulton <dmoulton@myrealbox.com> wrote:

Was driving by after lunch today, so I stopped in. The horizon is OK, I think. There are some trees that might block a very low sun, so I will probably stop by this evening if I have time. I could see the horizon through them, so I think it'll be fine. I spoke to the store manager. He was OK with it, but wants me to talk to Kevin Bushnell, the store director, tomorrow. I will call him in the morning and then post. dave David Moulton wrote:

Just spoke to Kevin Bushnell. He was more than willing for us to come and will provide a sign or two and 'treats'. I will be able to attend with my scope & solar filter. It would be nice to have others with filters and maybe some of the welding glass that has been talked about here recently. dave David Moulton wrote:
