If anyone is up this early, it appears that comet Catalina has experienced a sudden, massive brightening. I am observing a coma as large as the full moon, and bright enough to punch through the urban light pollution. It is very obvious in the eastern sky, to the lower left of Venus & Spica. Any other reports are appreciated.
OK, it appears that this was man-made, and not the comet. Some are speculating a fuel dump from a rocket. It was very widely observed and imaged. http://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=120236&PHPSESSID=v... Sure was spectacular, and threw me for a loop! Chuck, Thanks for the heads-up. I will take a look tomorrow morning (weather permitting). Missed it this morning. I didn’t think it would be high enough to see just yet. I will try to get a photograph this weekend if at all possible. Dave

Dave, I never did see the comet, which is still reportedly not yet a naked-eye object. The fuel dump object I did see has long since dissipated. I've read a couple reports from people in AZ who also saw it, however. I called Patrick early this morning and even though he had a cloud band in the way, he reported seeing it through the high cirrus. On Tue, Nov 24, 2015 at 7:36 AM, Dave Gary <davegary@me.com> wrote:

On the bright side, Catalina reportedly has two spikey little tails in images. On Tue, Nov 24, 2015 at 8:02 AM, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

Hello there guys and gals, Regretfully, I will be leaving the list. Roxanne and I have opened a new business- INSPIRED Wood Designs. We are building high end custom furniture, so along with that and everything else that life throws our way we are more or less being forced to curtail the other activities that we are involved in, including Meteorite hunting and collecting. I just donated several dozen meteorites to the physics department at U of U for their outreached STEM program. If anyone may be interested in purchasing the remained of the meteorites that I have on hand, please contact me. I'd like to sell the remaining meteorites, books, displays and all the rest of the various things to one person that has an interest in them. Texting me or emailing me is the best way to contact me. Barrett & Roxanne Flowers 801-381-9858 or BarrettWF@comcast.net Thanks!
