I missed the best part of it. I drove to the west desert and set up at midnight when the moon set. I saw one shadow in transit and the two moons were close in but moving away from the planet. I stayed until 5am for a first look at Orion. M42 was 20 degrees high when astro twilight came. There is a comet 217P Linear which is growing and has a tail.
