Chuck, Do you know where the Celestron 15 X 70 binos are made? Also, what is the difference between the Celestron 15 X 70 and the Oberwerk 15 X 70 binos? There is about a $50 price difference between the two. Debbie
Hi Debbie: Heres a good example of doing an end-run around the marketing "experts". The Celestrons are Chinese made by the same manufacturer as the Barskas, Oberwerks, Galileo & Bear brand. The only differences are minor; coatings, hinge fittings, rubber armor to suit the particular branding. Some include a trinket such as a plastic L bracket or mini-tripod, some don't. The cases might have slight differences. I've owned all of these brands of 15x70 and they are mechanically & optically identical. That's why so many folks are grabbing the brands without so much astro-cache'. They're getting the same binocular for only about sixty to seventy bucks. Go with the least expensive brand of this model you can find, you won't be disappointed in performance. C. --- UTAHDEB@aol.com wrote:

Hey folks, I just bought my nephew a pair of Barska 15X70's for Christmas. Big 5 Sports still had them on 12th and Wall in Ogden. Of course I had to give the poor salesclerk a lesson on the evils of those 60mm "department store telescopes" hanging on the wall... B) My nephew seems to get in an astronomical mood often and will really study an object like the moon for a lengthy period of time. I hope to encourage that with this gift. I better get busy and make him a good mount for them. Thanks everyone for the heads-up. 73 de n7zi Gary "Why buy something for ten bucks when you can make it for a hundred.", J.R.
