I have studying the Cal Sky map and info. I think the 4-something p.m. transit will not be visible from SLC. It will be close to the sun but will not cross it. A transit that does cross the sun happens after 8 p.m. and I don't think we will be able to see the sun at that time. What is the time in MDT? Not sure if the 24hr format takes DST into account.
