Concrete arrows (OT)
Patrick, That's a great set of pictures documenting the local navigation arrows. Thanks for posting a link to their images along with their exact locations. With all those arrows captured and documented, where do we go from here? Exploring further west or south, restoration, or something else? Ed

I don't know. My main goal at this point is getting at least a couple of the arrows I've already located cleaned up. I also want to get some aerial images of each. And I'm looking forward to getting the interview completed so more people will know about the arrows and more about some Utah aviation history. patrick
I'd love to be in on the aerial photography part! I'm hoping to find some time to visit a few of these to photograph them from "eye level" as well., it's all absolutely fascinating to an aviation buff. My plane got back a day early so weather permitting I'll be headed for the arrows this afternoon (Tuesday), taking off from SL International around 2 or 3 (depending on when I get up). You'd be welcome to come along. Feel free to bring a friend. Just note that total weight of passengers (that does not count me) can not exceed 250 pounds). patrick On 02 Sep 2013, at 23:58, Howard Jackman wrote:

Mysterious. I thought I saw something on the north of Wendover site, but not at any of the others. Some of those photos were almost enough to give me vertigo. Can you mark them to show the arrows? Hi Joe, I have not visited the sites on foot yet so the pictures only show where the government's GPS coordinates say the arrows and or beacons were. So, as was the case with the site near exit 49 there may be nothing. Anyone feel like a road trip? patrick On 10 Sep 2013, at 23:45, Joe Bauman wrote:

Hi Joe, I went back yesterday and used my DSLR and a telephoto to get this of the north of Wendover site: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/arrows2013sep16/northenv2.jpg Context image from last week here: http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/temp/arrows2013sep09/northenv.jpg If there's an arrow there I don't see it. But with all of the construction in the area I guess I'm not surprised. Still I hope to ground truth the site soon just to be sure. patrick On 10 Sep 2013, at 23:45, Joe Bauman wrote:

What’s that yellow piece of junk near the bottom of the photograph about 20 feet in front of (and a little to the right of) the front bumper of the first truck. For some reason they loved to put those arrows near a cliff edge or downhill slope. It may be all that remains of an arrow or it’s just a piece of junk. You’ll have to hit the ground on this one to be sure. The topography looks a little rough for it to be where an arrow used to be. Can you just drive into this place and start walking around? It looks, how should we say, really private. Dave On Sep 17, 2013, at 1:59 AM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

No idea. Maybe someone else here will.

That's my plan. I've already asked the local authorities about ground access to the site.

I don't know but hopefully the local guy I've contacted will. patrick
