Kurt, Very nice images! Some on my list to go after as soon as I have good skies and a few minutes. Sigh, clear and crisp tonight, stars are just a twinkling. I was doing some mods to a couple of my scopes and lost track of time and can't get out since work comes early. On Tue, May 4, 2010 at 9:10 PM, Canopus56 <canopus56@yahoo.com> wrote:

What is wrong with the Weather Service? I wanted to set up in my backyard and practice some stuff tonight, but the forecast was for partly cloudy. Now it's too late to get on it, but the last I looked the sky seemed wonderful. jb ________________________________ From: Jay Eads <jayleads@gmail.com> To: Utah Astronomy <utah-astronomy@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Tue, May 4, 2010 9:37:56 PM Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] Virgo Supercluster Galaxies via GRASS Roboscope Kurt, Very nice images! Yet another reason to build a backyard observatory. :) FWIW, when I'm interested in near term forecasts I tend to use the Clear Sky Clock (CSS) instead of NWS. The CSS for SLC (and the one for SPOC) has been calling for tonight to be clear since early this morning. SLC: http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/SaltLakeUTkey.html?1 SPOC: http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/SPOC2UTkey.html?1 patrick (hoping to image Comet McNaught in a few hours)
Build a backyard observatory? That sounds like WORK. I'm retired. Joe, the insult heaped on injury is that the seeing looks to be excellent tonight, based on the quality I was experiencing when observing the sun an hour before sundown. You should at least take the binos up the canyon, or a chaise lounge in the backyard! On 5/4/10, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com> wrote:

Right you are Chuck (sorry Joe). Just finished up just over 9 hours imaging. Very nice skies tonight. Time for a bit of sleep and then I'm looking forward to another look at the Sun this afternoon. Night all! patrick On 04 May 2010, at 21:51, Chuck Hards wrote:

I also use CSS but the West Jordan one since I'm in Herriman: http://www.cleardarksky.com/c/WstJrdnUTkey.html?1 BTW if you click on the right side where it says Utah List Map you can get a list of all the sites in Utah via a list or a map. Here's another quick view, this is for Herriman but you can type in your zip or city http://www.accuweather.com/us/ut/herriman/84096/outdoor-astronomy.asp Another: http://www.skippysky.com.au/NorthAmerica/ For the Jet Stream: http://squall.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_init_00.gif http://squall.sfsu.edu/crws/jetstream.html http://www.weatherimages.org/data/imag192.html Joe, you weren't alone. I had intended to get out but after making some mods to 3 scopes, I noticed it was 9:14p.m. and for a work night, too late to set up, cool down and get viewing in and being productive. Hate losing any seeing time lately. I did just get in from being in the backyard with some binoculars and took a look at some stuff up in Ursa Major, Leo and Virgo. Made for a nice hour or so. Clear Skies and good luck Patrick on nailing the comet. On Tue, May 4, 2010 at 9:47 PM, Patrick Wiggins <paw@wirelessbeehive.com>wrote:

Joe, this is your personal Clear Sky Alert! NWS, and CSC both calling for clear skies tonight. You've got a couple of hours to get set up in your backyard before it gets dark. All of us here on Utah Astronomy expect to see some pictures from you tomorrow. <grins> patrick
