Unrealized by most, show and tell needs to be fairly well organized. Not everyone is comfortable standing in front of an audience and talking. However, when they realize its only for a minute or two, they are happy to do it. You need about 10 people. So you "advertise" for a month or two until you get enough, but all are welcome. You even ask people you know who have something new. I remember Jerry Foote and his short demonstration at a show and tell. He demonstrated the various methods to "lock" down screws. Doesn't sound too interesting until he related the story behind the quest. He used to have a 10" on a trailer and the screws holding the mirror got loose and so did the mirror. While he traveled over rough roads his mirror rumbled up and down the tube. Fortunately, not a lot of damage to the mirror, but his heart palpitated a bit when he discovered what had happened . I would suggest Tyler and his astrograph be on the schedule. I would also volunteer, I have something in mind. I'm sure Chuck could find "something" in his workshop to talk about. So there are three maybe not exactly "ready, willing and able" (hehehe) but it's a start. Although, in all fairness, Tyler could probably take an evening of his own with the astrograph and his results!! For what its worth, to the powers that be on the SLAS board.
It doesn't even have to be a bit of hardware or a gizmo. Could be a historical artifact, interesting books or atlases, items connected to historical personalities in the astronomy world. For instance, I have a breakfast cereal box formerly owned by the late Tom Cave. On Tue, Mar 26, 2013 at 12:16 PM, <jcarman6@q.com> wrote:

Should and could be lots of fun. I could bring my dob I made to show and tell. And if I ever get going on my refractor that would be fun. But I have to make a stair railing etc. for my better half first. Mark Sent from my iPhone On Mar 26, 2013, at 12:46 PM, Chuck Hards <chuck.hards@gmail.com> wrote:

He was the owner of Cave Optical, and a prolific observer. It's not a joke, I really have his cereal box! On Mar 26, 2013 4:47 PM, "Larry Holmes" <larry@kijoda.com> wrote:
