Wow, now THREE digests in one day! The list is smoking! In over 35 years, I've never noticed the Geminids to have a sharp peak. In fact it's one of the longest-lasting showers that I can think of. Good views days before and after any predicted "peak", which must be fairly "soft" if there at all. Usually big and bright, colored yellow to green. Never fails to please even from the suburbs, as Joe Borgione noted. Last night I saw what I thought was shower member, it aligned perfectly with the radiant, but something was wrong...then it hit me that it was moving TOWARD the radiant, so it must have been a sporadic. Then it clouded up and I went to bed. Joe, my Brunton 20x70's are waterproof....maybe it's time to build the "spa-llelogram".... ;) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Now there's an idea; gonna have to give it some thought, and maybe come up with something as ugly as my crutches-ogram. Maybe just use schedule 40 sprinkler line, that's pretty ugly... :-)
From what Patrick posted, what I saw wasn't the ISS; it was about 5:30 am or so when I saw the satellite.
I few years back I spent a wicked cold night in Evanston Wyo for a Geminids Peak. They were fabulous, and worth the early stage frostbite on my face. It was like something Jack London would have written about. While the skies aren't quite as dark, the backyard hot tub does have it's own advantages...
