Hi all. I just made my daily trip into town to get mail, and I just had to let y'all know what a gorgeous day it is here. Mt. Nebo has a nice cloud cap (looks like snow in the next day or two), the air is only slightly hazy, and the snow on the ground is still fresh from Sunday night's storm. I watched a bald eagle soaring above the road. Its white head and tail were brilliant in the sunshine. There are lots of signs of deer in the yard, but the elk haven't been here for awhile. I'd like to give myself the rest of the day off, but too much to do for that.well, maybe not. Think I'll go take in more of that sunshine. Maybe go hunt for more eagles. Work can/should wait on a day like this. Regards to all, Kim

Nope - didn't make it. With the weather iffy, I just didn't want to make the 3-4 hour trip. Now, of course, I'm sorry I missed it. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Joe Bauman Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2006 4:45 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: Re: [Utah-astronomy] OT: Another beautiful day in paradise So Kim, did you decide to drive out to see Stardust? Well, it was amazing. I'll always be grateful to Patrick for convincing a bunch of us that it was worth giving it a try! Thanks, Joe
Of course it was amazing, but had I been there, it would have been a dud. -----Original Message----- From: utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:utah-astronomy-bounces+kimharch=cut.net@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Joe Bauman Sent: Tuesday, January 17, 2006 4:54 PM To: Utah Astronomy Subject: RE: [Utah-astronomy] OT: Another beautiful day in paradise Well, it was amazing. Our photographer was teasing me that I was the jinx. I was 0 for 3 before Sunday: the tragedy with Columbia, the crashed Genesis and the shuttle that didn't launch until after I left! But now the string is broken. -- Joe

http://www.trilobyte.net/paw/slas/patrickw/PATRICKW04.HTML For long-term future reference, it might be useful to label pictures like - http://www.trilobyte.net/paw/slas/patrickw/PATRICKW967.JPG - with the notation that the spacecraft is moving from the left to the right of the frame during reentry. Future viewers could misinterpret the path as a meteor. The apparent path of a meteor descends and get brighter - as opposed to a spacecraft reentry. In spacecraft reentry the satellite is initially brighter, then dims, but appears to move higher in altitude relative to the the viewer's position. Just a visual impression - - Canopus56 (Kurt) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
